Being passed over for a promotion can be one of the most excruciatingly painful experiences of your life. However, you have to maintain your composure and bounce back from experience. Don't give up just because your bosses don't choose you the first time. These are some tips you can use to get through this tough time.

Do Not Show Unpleasant Emotions

One of the worst things you can do is to mishandle your emotions after getting passed over for a promotion. Employers want to see that you can handle rejection well and keep going. It's one of the most favorable qualities in a salesperson, and it's what they seek in their management staff, as well. Congratulate the winner and be humble, even if you know you should have gotten the job.

Do Show Them What They Missed

Now is your opportunity to work for your employer so that they'll consider you during the next round of promotions. Ask for feedback from your superiors about where you can improve, and then improve in those areas immediately. Work harder and fill in for employees who call out. You'll notice that you get a lot more attention if you handle yourself that way.

Let Them Know You Want to Advance

Another thing you need to do is to voice your interest in the advancement. Many employees make the mistake of thinking that their bosses know what they want. Not every employee wants a promotion. Therefore, you have to let your superiors know that you're interested in being a substantial candidate. Talk to your boss during a convenient time and let him know that you're interested in having him or her develop you for advancement.

Try these tips after your first rejection and see if it will win you the job the next time around. Your employers might see you differently the next time promotions are up.
